"Foreward"

When my daughter, Susan, and great niece, Candy Mintz, approached me and asked me to write down my recipes, I instantly regretted that I did not have more of my Mother's recipes to include. Then, the thought occurred to me to present my Mother Ida Mark's recipes and those of her descendants.  Thus, the idea of this booklet was born.

My Mother was a brilliant and beautiful lady of queenly stature. She was brought up in an affluent home in "Schkud", Europe.  Her Mother, Rolla Falk Tanur, was a glamorous lady - not at all interested in household affairs.  However, she permitted little Ida to spend time in the kitchen and watch and help the hired cook.  My Mother was her Father's, Dr. Joshua Tanur, favorite child and what little "Eda" wanted to do, she was allowed to do.  And so it was that she became adept at cooking. This was in the early 1870's.

Many years later, when my parents were living in Cincinnati, Ohio, and had a family of eight children, and always a few visiting relatives and guests staying with us, her cooking was beyond compare.

My father was an accountant but in early years in Cincinnati he operated a small grocery store.  He was a scholar and gentleman, the sweetest of men.  A business man, he was not.  To augment the income of the grocery store, my Mother cooked and baked specialties for customers.  I deeply regret that I do not have these recipes nor do I have exact measurements for those I do have.  This is an...
