The Blues and Greens of Ecuador
An Audio Story

Hello!  I'm Jane Hanser.  We're really glad that you stopped by the ESL Help Desk, your home page for questions and comments about English grammar. The ESL Help Desk is based in Boston, Massachusetts and we are proud that today's episode is our sixteenth episode.  In our library, you can find answers to questions about writing, grammar and communication, and you can listen to audio stories and dialogues. The ESL Help Desk is unique because all our examples come from authentic language spoken or written by learners of English. So now let's talk about today's episode.

Let's be honest:  The school year is almost over and people are asking each other the question, "What are you doing for vacation?" or "Are you going anywhere special this summer"?  Today we're going to present you with an essay written by Wilfrido Lopez, in which Wilfrido writes about the beauty of his native country, Ecuador.  Listen to Wilfrido's description.  Doesn't it make you want to travel there?

Before You Listen:

What colors do you think of when you think of your native country?  Why?
Look at the photographs below, and answer the questions you see.
Study the vocabulary to the left.  Have you heard of any of the places listed?
Then listen to the story!

What do you see in the photo above?

Look at all the footprints in the sand!  How far have these people walked?
