The Run-on Sentence

 

Today's Grammar HELP! Handbook lesson provides you with exercises to test your understanding of our chapter, "Sentence Structure" and to challenge you to apply what you've learned.  It is primarily for beginners and lower-intermediate learners of English. This is not an audio lesson.


Editing Exercise 1

 

The sentences below are from students' writing and contain errors with sentence structure.


1.  It is not very easy ...

2.  In Honduras, my country, it is very common ...

3.  The most important day in my life was ....

3.  Salaries are lower there than here.

5.  a) She was afraid.... or She is afraid.... The time reference is unclear from the context.

6.  Women are very different....

7.  ... there was a war ...

8.  (They) didn't have food or fresh water ....

9.  When I lived there, people didn't have to pay for their education or for
     health care.
