And have you ever then FOUND it?\u00a0\u00a0 The expression is &#8220;lost AND found&#8221;, not lost &#8220;in&#8221; found.<\/p>\n<p>Because &#8220;and&#8221; often sounds like n &#8211;&gt; <em>lost and found<\/em> sounds like <span style=\"color: #b75c48;\"><em>lost n found<\/em><\/span>, somebody then thinks the expression is &#8220;lost in found&#8221;. But that belies the logic of the expression: <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>lost, and then hopefully found<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>If you ever lose something, ask, &#8220;Do you have a lost and found here?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Send us other examples of expressions that you think have been misrepresented in writing.
