The Run-on Sentence
Now You Do It!
The easiest way to repair a run-on
sentence is to turn each run-on into two simple sentences.
PUNCTUATION: Indicate the end of the first sentence by adding proper punctuation.
CAPITALIZATION: Indicate the beginning of the second sentence by using a capital letter
(A, B, C, etc.).
There are other ways to repair a run-on sentence, however.
Solutions:
1) Two simple sentences:
I was in medical school. It was a very good time for me.
2) One compound sentence:
I was in medical school and it was a very good time for me.
Solutions:
1) Two
simple sentences:
Many people disagreed with the government's position but
they had no choice. The military draft required them to enlist.
2) One sentence that uses a colon:
Many people disagreed with the government's position but they had no choice: The military
draft required them to enlist.
3) One
complex sentence that uses a subordinate clause:
Many people disagreed with the government's position but
they had no choice because the military draft required them to enlist.
