Sholum was the second son of three brothers - 1) Michael, 2) SHOLUM and 3) Iudel David.

Shalom ben Ovsey m. Leah (nee?) (b. 1911). In 1855 he's listed as a taxpayer in Skuodas "unable to pay."  The last record I can find of him is in 1910.

They appear to have one child recorded, named Yehoshua (Ovsey) or Ovsey Rafael.

Ovsei (Yehoshua) Tanur m. Rachel (Rollo) Davidoff. In 1890, "Ovsey" and his wife Rachel were living in Tels/Kaunas, occupation "2nd Guild Merchant" with their children.  In 1892, Ovsey (Yehoshua) and his family lived in Skuodas; he's "well-to-do".... and he has 6 in his family. In 1904 Yosef was still living in Skuodas, "has 8 family members", "owns a house" and is "well-to-do". (See his genealogy, below.).  In 1914 Yosef was still in Skodas

Sholem Rafael lived in Skuodas and married Chaya (bat Avram) Kahn/Kagan b. 1870 in Skuodas. Their daughter Tauba was born i7/30/1908. They moved to Liepaja, Latvia, and lived at Peldu 1909. All three were murdered/shot to death at the Liepaja massacress on Jan. 10, 1941.

Yosef Ber m. Chaya (Yohanna) (bat Julius Waller). He became a Rabbi Elector in 1903.  In 1904, there were 8 family members. (Click here for Yosef Tanur's photo.)    Continue below for the life of Yosef and Chana (Yohanna) Tanur.

Sarah Leah: In 1911, she has a bank account. No further information about Sarah Leah.

Hirsch Meir m. Klara and opened a large general store in Skuodas. He was very successful. They had a son, Yisrael Isaiah (click name for two group photos.). Hirsh Meier and Yisroel Isaiah were killed in Shkud. Klara was murdered at Alka Hill, August 1941. Click here for more about Hirsh Meir.

Eliash In 1898 he was a pharmacist's apprentice in Skuodas.  In 1912, he was a municipal elector. In 1914, he owned a chemist's shop or medical supplies and cosmetics in Skuodas. He applied for a passport in 6/8/1920. He married Masha nee Rabinowitz. Eliahu was recognized for his role in co-founding the popular Jewish bank in Skuodas.   Continue below for the life of Eliash and Masha Tanur.

Esther: She had a bank account in 1911.  Esther (Tanur), born 10/6/1884, in Skuodos, married ___Gelfand. Their son was Nathan Gelfand. Esther was killed in the Shoah, 5/8/41).  Nathan ( - d. 1999) married Libby (nee ?) ( - d. 2001) and they made California their home. Their son is Marty.

Ida (nee Tanur) (Ita bat Yehoshua) Nov. 1, 1867 - 1947, lived in Skuodos.  Ida m. Shmuel David Mark (b. 1873, from Polangen) around 1889.  They lived in Libau, Latvia. They immigrated as a family to the United States in 1906.

Their children were (some ages listed in Ship Log are incorrect), in birth order:

3.  FANNY b. Dec. 19, 1895)

As a family, after arriving at Ellis Island, they made their way to Cincinnati, Ohio.  Ida Mark was the "Aunt Ida Mark" mentioned in the cookbook. Ida Tanur Mark died in Ohio Nov. 26, 1947. We have lost touch with these Tanur descendents; but there seems to be a Reuven and Arlene Mark in CT. please contact us if you have any information.

Joseph moved his family from Skuodos to Kaunas, where he ran a candy and soap factory.  His last known address, as of Dec. 1920 (when Mauritz immigrated to the U.S.), was Vienybes Sikate 2 (Vienybes Square), Kaunas.  (Yosef applied for an internal passport on August 4, 1920; one other living in his family.) He died of a stroke in (year unknown).  Yohana died in 1944, murdered in the Shoah.

Yosef and Yohanna had eight children:

Sam arrived in the U.S. on June 20, 1910. at age 17; he changed the spelling of his last name to "Tanner".  Sam m. Fanny (Fay)

Mauritz m. Edith (b.1908 - d. 2008). 

Fanya m. Leon Rubinstein (in Berlin in 1930/31).   Click here for more information about their daring escape from the Nazis.

Hirsch (m. Batia bat Israel Smilgait v'Gita Leah.  In 1937 Batia applied for an internal passport. In 1941 they were both living in Kaunas, at Stalino pr. 68. Hirsch was murdered in the Shoah, frozen, outside camp Kaufering I of Dachau, in Jan. 1945.  

Genia (Jenny) m. Robert Bodlander and emigrated to Australia (date?). 

Mascha m. Shmuel Gringauz (Mully).  Mascha later was killed in the Shoah, in Stuffhof (1944). 

Ida m. Rafael___. Their daughter was Asja.  She and Asja were killed in the Shoah, perished from fire when the ghetto Kaunas was burned July 14-20, 1944, by German tropps and 2000 other Jews.

Chaim (Charles) m. Moussia (nee Frima Kaufman) in London, UK.

Samuel & Fay's children are David and Joan.   Jenny & Robert Bodlander's children are Serge (b. 1932, Berlin) and Ariane (Bodlander).  Mascha & Schmuel Gringauz's son is Alex (d. 2015 RIP).  Fanya & Leon (  - 1990) Rubenstein emigrated from Berlin to NYC in July, 1930, with children Norbert and Roman (b. Berlin, 1934-1999);  Jonathan was born in the US. Mauritz & Edith Tanur's son is Michael (Tanur), born in Koenigsburg.  Charles (Chaim) and Moussia's children:

1) Jonathan Rubinstein's children are Gabriel and Max.  2) Roman & Greta Rubinstein's children are Wendy, Lori, Mark and Lee.  3) Norbert m. Zelma Grodecki; Norbert & Zelma's children are Dana, Tamar, Guy and Michael. 4) Sam & ____'s daughter is Joan (nee Tanur).  5) Chaim & Moussia's daughter is Elizabeth (nee Tanur) Kramer (living in London).

Hirsch Meir owned a popular wholesale groceries store in Skuodas. I have records of Hirsch Meir and two different wives; I'll include one then the other. Perhaps one died and he remarried. See as follows:

Hirsh Meyer (ben Yehoshua)

Hirsh Meyer m. Shimkhe Peisel (b. 1879 - ?) in Plunge, Telse, Kaunas, in 1902 on the 14th of Cheshvan.  His occupation is "merchant's son".

Their children were:

1.  SHEYNA (b. 1904 - ?)

2.  ITA (b. 1905  - ?)

3.  YEHOSHUA SHAYA (b. 1907  - ?)

Hirsch Meir m. Chaya (nicknamed Zitzi) (nee?)  b. Feb. 10, 1878.  Their children were:

1.  ZENI b. 1910

2.  IDA b. 1914

Hirsch Meir, Zitzi, Ida and Zeni were all killed in the Shoah at Aska Hill.  (Yona Hirshfeld, who submitted many names to the Yad Vashem database, lists herself as Hirsh Meir's neice, and Ida and Zeni's cousin.)

Rosa married a doctor.  Aurelia m. Yitzchak Feit. They lived in Kudirkos Naumiestis (Lithuania). Yona (IRA?) m. Hirschfeld.
Eliahu and his wife Masha, Rosa and her husband, and Yitzchak and Leah (Aurelia) and Ira
were all murdered in Skhud and at Alka Hill in 1941.
